Antibiotic Stewardship for High School Students

An educational program to engage students in the public health fight against antibiotic resistance.

This program was developed to be taught by an educator or Antibiotic Ambassador during a normal class period, taking 45 min - 1 hour to present including doing the provided student activities.

Program Description

The MARR Coalition supports the judicious use of antibiotics and encourages healthy habits to prevent infection. The 45-minute interactive presentation is designed for use with high school-aged students and includes information on the following:

  1. Overview of antimicrobial resistance
  2. Bacteria versus viruses
  3. How antibiotics work
  4. Antibiotic safety and side effects
  5. Penicillin Allergies

This program is designed for a “MARR Ambassador” (generally volunteer college students) or High School teacher to present in the health or science classroom. The program is available for download and use from the MARR Coalition website (www.mi-marr.org). Any questions may be directed to elainebailey@mi-marr.org. To follow are suggested instructions for “MARR Ambassadors” who are planning to present the program.
